Vegetarian diets, which emphasize eating only animal products such as meat, eggs and dairy, have quickly become popular, especially among exercise enthusiasts. Advocates say this high-protein, vegetarian diet has helped them lose weight and improve overall health. However, medical experts are increasingly concerned about its long-term effects.

Dr. Rupy Aujla, speaking on “The Doctor’s Kitchen” podcast, warned that extreme diets such as carnivore and keto diets can lead to serious health problems. He highlighted studies that show that these foods can “cause inflammation and aging,” which can cause damage to vital organs such as the heart and kidneys. Aujla explained that these foods may promote the accumulation of senescent cells—cells that no longer function properly and can cause inflammation and toxicity.

In addition to inflammation, Aujla and other health experts are concerned about the risk of malnutrition in diets that do not include vegetables. In addition, they warn that the carnivore diet can increase the risk of heart disease, mitochondrial dysfunction, and even ‘dementia’ due to the possible effect on cholesterol levels and heart health. Although Aujla believes that the adoption of short-term food can help those with certain intolerances, he urged caution, emphasizing the lack of long-term studies on the effects of food.
